Lucid Laces was born from a deep love of roller skating and a frustration with generic gear that didn’t reflect the rhythm or individuality of the skater. We wanted laces that could keep up — in strength, visibility, and style.

So we built them ourselves.
Lucid Laces creates handcrafted, high-quality reflective roller skate laces made with premium paracord and assembled by hand in Chicago. Every pair is cut, finished, and packaged with intention — because in skating, details matter.
From Chicago JB sessions to late-night street skates along the lakefront, Lucid appreciates Chicago skate culture and built by skaters who value smooth fundamentals, edge control, and self-expression. We believe skating is more than aesthetics.

We’ve raised over $2,500 through our After the Storm campaign with Hope for the Day supporting mental health education and suicide prevention.​ We've also had the honor of fundraising for LMJ Lost Souls – Alzheimer’s Fund by sponsoring their Skate4aCause event and appeared on their podcast to share our story in the hopes of helping someone else feel seen and supported.​​
Angelique
Lucid Laces was founded by Angelique Kalnes, a Chicago-based skater who believes confidence on wheels starts with strong fundamentals and self-trust.
​
After struggling with comparison and feeling “not built” for skating, Angelique shifted her focus to body mechanics, edge control, and joy — building confidence through clean movement instead of performance.
​
That mindset became the foundation of Lucid.
Today, she leads a women-run skate brand rooted in Chicago roller skating culture, creating reflective skate gear and community spaces that help skaters feel seen, capable, and powerful in their own bodies.

Because skating isn’t about copying someone else’s rhythm.
It’s about finding your own.
DRELLA
Hi! I’m Drella, and I joined Lucid Laces in September 2022 as Social Media Manager.
My skate journey began in 2020 at skate parks during the early days of the pandemic. The thrill of ramps and the welcoming community made skating a permanent part of my life. In fall 2021, I discovered JB rink skating, fell in love with the culture, and took on the challenge of skating every day for a year—a commitment that deeply connected me with the skate world and helped me grow as a skater.
I’m passionate about spreading the joy skating has brought me and helping others feel that same love. I’m proud to work alongside Angelique and be part of the Lucid Laces mission to uplift and inspire the skate community.
